Digital Byte 55: A Letter to Every New Grad (and My Younger Self)

May 13th, 2025

For the past two weeks, I’ve seen NYU grads in their purple caps and gowns on nearly every walk I take with my dog. They gather in Washington Square Park, posing, laughing, blocking sidewalks with photographers, flowers, and champagne. And every time I pass them, I can’t help but think about what I wish someone had told me when I graduated.

When I graduated, I thought I’d be done learning.

No more lectures. No more late-night study sessions. No more group projects.

What I didn’t realize then is that learning doesn’t end when you walk across that stage.

That’s when the most important kind of learning begins.

It’s been my thirst for learning, more than any title or credential, that’s propelled my business forward.

Not just formal courses or books (though those help), but staying curious.

Asking better questions. Seeking mentors. Saying yes before I feel ready.

✔️ Every new client taught me something
✔️ Every mistake taught me even more
✔️ Every conversation helped me see things differently

If I could go back and give myself one piece of advice, it would be this:

Don’t rush to have it all figured out. Just keep learning.

Go to the networking event. Ask the awkward question. Join the conversation even if you feel behind.

The world is your classroom now, and there’s no cap and gown required.

Stay curious,

Sydney Addis
