Digital Byte 37: I had a dinner with 3 complete strangers. Here's why...
February 27th, 2024
This past Wednesday, I had dinner with 3 strangers. Now, you might be wondering, why in the world would I do that? Well, let me tell you— for me, it's all about shaking up the way I think about networking.
You see, I've always believed that networking doesn't have to be this formal, structured thing. Sometimes, the most meaningful connections happen when you least expect them.
That's why when a friend told me about this new app where you can connect with strangers over dinner, I instantly downloaded the app and signed up.
My dinner consisted of a teacher from Kentucky, a fix and flipper from Iran, and a tech op from Mongolia. There were no name tags or business cards—just genuine conversation and a shared sense of curiosity for things both inside and outside of work. We talked about everything from our favorite travel destinations to our career aspirations, and before we knew it, two hours flew by.
While this dinner wasn't intended as a networking event, I couldn't help but see it as an opportunity to expand my network and make new connections. After all, networking is about more than just exchanging business cards—it's about building genuine relationships with others.
As an entrepreneur, these kinds of connections can be invaluable. They open up new avenues for collaboration, partnership, and growth. Whether it's finding a mentor who can offer guidance and support, connecting with potential clients or customers, or simply gaining fresh insights and perspectives, you never know where these relationships might lead.
By the end of the night, I walked away with more than just a full stomach. I had made three new connections, each with their own unique stories and perspectives. And the best part? It didn't feel forced or contrived; it was just people coming together to share a meal and swap stories.
So, if you've ever felt intimidated by the idea of networking, maybe it's time to start thinking about it differently. Whether it's grabbing dinner with strangers through an app, striking up a conversation with someone new at your local coffee shop, or simply being open to unexpected opportunities for connection, you never know where those interactions might lead—or what new friendships you might form along the way. And who knows? Your next client could be just a dinner conversation away.
Stay Inspired,
