Digital Byte 06: Drawing Inspiration from Gaudi

February 8th, 2022

This summer I had the most wonderful visit to La Pedrera- Casa Mila and it left me feeling ~inspired~.

Gaudi was truly a revolutionary when it came to design x functionality x user experience x beauty. All things I strive for at the Inspiration Agency. He designed with the future in mind, for example, he built a parking garage inside Casa Mila before cars were even invented! It was the first garage located inside a building in Barcelona.

He also designed for functionality. For example, the handles were shaped based on how a person would grab them. He took the clay ceramic handle and gripped it the way he would use the handle. So simple yet revolutionary to the users experience. On the rooftop, there were arches you walked through. These arches perfectly framed the cities cathedrals MILES away. A small touch that if you weren’t told to look for you might miss out on. Above all everything was absolutely stunning to look at. It was an experience as much as it was functional. Your Weekly Inspiration

There are many times that you may think of a random invention or a great idea for the world. Have you ever decided to chase that thought and turn it into a reality? Well Jesse Tran, co-founder of Rens, had the bright idea of creating a shoe that was fashionable yet suitable for everyday use that would reduce the waste in landfills and emissions of methane. So what exactly are the revolutionary materials used to create these shoes? Coffee and recycled plastic!

This Finnish startup values sustainability in all aspects, they combined these two materials to create a yarn that is used to create the upper part of the shoe while the other parts of the shoe use recycled plastic, and the sole is made from biodegradable tree sap. Another special aspect of these shoes? They’re also waterproof. So far they have used over 250,000 recycled plastic water bottles and 750,000 cups of recycled coffee.

Jesse reminds me to think about the importance of having an awesome product while also creating some serious good for the world. How can you make more of an effort through your business to positively affect the world?
