Digital Byte 05: Promoting Self-Love as an Entrepreneur

February 3rd, 2022

With Valentine's day right around the corner, I couldn’t help but choose a mushy topic for this week’s newsletter. Being an entrepreneur often leaves me prioritizing work over my personal life because there is always so much to do all the time. I love what I do which makes it hard to put time into other aspects of my life but I think the thing that is most often neglected is our time put into self-love.

My journey of self-love is of course still ongoing and I find it easier to jump into work as that is comfortable and familiar to me. I so often forget to eat, feel too tired for the gym, and rarely have time to read or do other hobbies of mine.

However, neglecting self-love means neglecting all those other things in your life you hold dear to you because whether intended or not it will affect all aspects of your life. I strongly believe that having a good relationship with yourself is key to having a good relationship with your friends, and colleagues. People who have a good relationship with themselves are more likely to make decisions and choose paths that align with their personalities and aspirations. Which reflects in being more productive and successful.

1. Do my goals genuinely reflect what I want in this life? Or are they more aligned with what someone else wants?

2. How have I prioritized myself this week?

3. What have I been putting off because life got in the way?

Promoting self-love should be a main pillar of the workplace environment. Not only does self-love unleash the potential of your team, but it also boosts their productivity and makes them pour their hearts into what they do. Trust me that’s how the magic happens. Self-love, also, helps you become a better leader. It enables you to lead with compassion and empathy.

Your Weekly Inspiration

This inspiring woman left her job as a Senior Marketing Manager at Google and started her own business. Heidi Zak founded Third Love, a company with the mission to enable women to feel confident in their everyday life. Like most entrepreneurs, her first year of business started with a small team and limited resources. After huge manufacturing issues, her company almost failed but with the will to succeed she stuck it out.  She kept learning and finding unique solutions until she became one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the underwear industry.

I often say that these tough situations can either bring newfound lessons that positively shape your business moving forward or the downfall of your company. It just depends on how long you’re willing to stick with it and problem solve. Being an entrepreneur takes guts, and a whole lot of self-love.
