Digital Byte 07: Leaps of Faith & Missed Opportunities
February 15th, 2022
Missed opportunities.
Are you ever afraid to take the leap? That your bank account won’t support your dreams?
Often time the fear of stepping out of your comfort zone creates a lot of questions and worries but it also leads to missed opportunities. When I took the leap to move to Madrid, I wouldn’t say it was a comfortable decision.
I spent the summer after graduation creating a network for myself in Chicago. I had my family, friends, a job, even a partner I felt afraid to leave. I even pushed back my flight a month in hopes I would feel more ready. Well, that moment never comes. You’re never ready to step out of your comfort zone, but you will be so happy you did. Now, almost 3 years later, I am still living in Madrid, riding out the pandemic and creating a community for myself.
I think back to opportunities I might have missed by being too afraid of what my bank account might look like or feeling pressure from those around me. One big decision I skipped out on was studying abroad for the full year back in college. I decided to keep it to one semester in Amsterdam instead of living out my dream of adding on another semester in Hyderabad, India. I think about this missed opportunity frequently and use it as a reminder to take my next risk.
I am happy with the path I am on right now, but I do owe it to the many risks I DID take. I try and take this practice into work now. This January I appeared on my first podcast and my first IG live. Both opportunities were way out of my comfort zone but since it has opened more doors and opportunities to me. How can you take risks in your life and career? What opportunities have you taken or missed?

Tongue Hugs from Pringles. Many companies are launching brand refreshes to stay relevant with the times. Not only did Pringles rebrand their packaging, but they also created a campaign around getting some extra love from the chip. If you ask me, my inner child will never unsee them as a way to create a beak and look like a duck.
Watch the Superbowl for the ads? Same. Here’s the roundup in case you missed out.
As if I wasn’t already a huge fan of Chewy, yesterday they went live on TikTok to create bonds between those without a date this Valentine's and rescue animals in need of a home. In their cleverly named campaign “Some Buddy to Love,” I am feeling all the feels.

Waiting for that sign to take a huge step out of your comfort zone? Well, over 5.4 million people took the step last year in applying for a business formation in 2021. This record number is a sign that the 9-5 isn’t for everyone and it is even being called the era of “Great Resignation.”
This article follows the journey of three 9-5 workers who take a leap of faith and start their dream business. After reading their stories I was reminded that starting a business takes a whole lot of guts, patience, and determination but it is also one of the most rewarding things a person can do.
