Digital Byte 41: The $300 Dinner Party

May 7th, 2024

At a recent team activity that quickly became one of my favorites, I presented a unique challenge: "If someone gave you $300 to plan a dinner party, how would you do it?" Given a day to prepare their answers, the responses from our team were both imaginative and revealing.

The array of plans ranged from choosing to dine out at upscale restaurants to hosting intimate gatherings at home with elaborate decorations. Some team members showcased their flair for elegance, opting for a small, luxurious meal complete with fine dining elements. Others imagined a more inclusive event, maximizing the budget to accommodate a larger group, focusing on a fun and communal atmosphere with a backyard barbecue.

Each plan was infused with personal touches that spoke volumes about the planner's priorities and preferences. The meticulous detail some put into balancing costs to optimize guest numbers contrasted with others who prioritized creating a memorable ambiance or a gourmet menu.

This wasn't just an exercise in party planning, but a deeper look into how we each value different aspects of hosting and social interaction. It's a testament to the diverse approaches we bring to the table, literally and figuratively, when given a task and the freedom to express ourselves.

This simple yet effective challenge is something I highly recommend you try, whether with your team or at your next social event with friends. It's not only fun but also a revealing way to understand the people you work and interact with on a deeper level.

Stay Inspired,

Sydney Addis
