Digital Byte 11: The Power in Gift-Giving

March 16th, 2022

When was the last time you gave a gift to one of your clients? If it's been a while, or if you've never done it before, then you're missing out on an important way to build relationships and grow your business.

But hey, as a busy entrepreneur, gift-giving can feel the absolute last thing on my mind, and with the weight of a long to-do list, I often place it towards the bottom. But I wanted to take a second to note the power of gift-giving, not just in your personal life but your professional one too.

Research shows that gift-giving is an important part of our society with it being one of the five love languages, it is a powerful tool to build or cement relationships, help others or just show you care. The values we portray through gift-giving like thoughtfulness, generosity, and commitment are just as important in business.

The times that I have taken a step above to give a gift to a client have gone a long way in building relationships for the long run.

The best part is, they haven’t been extravagant. Think back to some of the best gifts you have received. I bet they're not all the biggest or most expensive but the ones that were thoughtful, a surprise, or well-timed. Sending a handwritten thank-you note, flowers for an engagement or a bottle of wine for a special celebration will go a long way and help you be remembered.

So next time you're thinking about how to show your clients you care, remember the power of a simple gift.
