Digital Byte 69: Before You Set New Years Goals
December 23rd, 2025
This time of year usually comes with a familiar pressure to add more.
New goals. New routines. New commitments. New plans for how we will finally do everything better.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about a different approach. What if growth this year is not about adding anything at all?
What if it is about taking more away.
As businesses scale and lives get fuller, we rarely stop to question what we are carrying simply because it has always been there.
Habits that once made sense but now create friction. Workflows that slow us down. Expectations that no longer match the season we are in.
In my experience, momentum slows less often because of a lack of ambition and more often because of misalignment.
Too many priorities. Too many voices. Too much noise.
So instead of asking, "What do I want to achieve this year?" I want to challenge you to ask a different question:
"What no longer fits?"
Take a look at your last year:
What habits keep you busy but do not move the needle?
What relationships consistently pull more energy than they give?
What beliefs are rooted in an earlier version of you that you have already outgrown?
Subtraction is not about doing less for the sake of it. It is about creating clarity.
When you remove what is misaligned, decisions become easier. Focus sharpens. The work you do becomes intentional rather than reactive.
I have found that removing one unnecessary commitment often creates more progress than adding multiple new goals.
Letting go creates space for better opportunities, stronger relationships, and work that actually compounds over time.
As you head into the new year, consider where subtraction might serve you better than a new addition.
Growth does not always mean more. Sometimes it means less.
Happy Holidays!
