Digital Byte 47: Small Steps and Big Miracles

December 24th, 2024

The holidays are finally here! It is a time for joy, connection, and traditions. I hope this season brings you and your loved ones warmth, laughter, and moments that truly warm your heart.

The story of Chanukah is one I reflect on every year, as its lessons are as meaningful today as they were over 2,000 years ago.

When the Greek-Syrian Empire occupied Jerusalem, they tried to suppress Jewish practices and force assimilation into their culture. But the Maccabees, a small band of Jewish fighters, refused to give up their faith. Using guerrilla warfare, they fought against all odds and reclaimed their sacred temple in Jerusalem. This was the first miracle of Chanukah—an underdog victory achieved through courage, strategy, and unwavering persistence.

The second miracle happened when the Maccabees returned to the temple, which had been desecrated and left in ruins. As they worked to rebuild it, they found only enough oil to keep the temple’s lamp burning for one night. This lamp wasn’t just practical; it symbolized their faith and the enduring presence of light in the darkness. Miraculously, that small amount of oil burned for eight days and nights, sustaining their light and hope.

If you’ve had a hard year or face challenges that feel impossible, let this story remind you to keep going. Like the Maccabees, with the right mindset, determination, and even the slightest spark of hope, you can find light in the darkest moments when you need it most.

Wishing you a holiday season filled with love, light, and the courage to embrace all that lies ahead.

Happy Holidays,

Sydney Addis
