Digital Byte 81: The Word Of The Year
I have landed on my word for 2026. Patience. This is an area I genuinely struggle in most areas of my life, and I think most entrepreneurs do too. We have ambitious goals, and we know that if we put in 200%, we could reach them fast.
Digital Byte 80: Reflecting On How My Teachers Shaped My Leadership
Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, so I took the time to reflect on the teachers who stuck with me since. One in particular was one of my high school English teachers, Mr. Lynn.
Digital Byte 79: Are Your People Staying for the Right Reasons?
I have a close childhood friend who went straight into sales after she graduated from college. She was the one landing the calls, building the pipeline, getting people in the door. But the way her company was structured, her pay was tied to closing, and she wasn't the one on those calls. Someone else was. The system was broken, and she knew it, so she brought it up. They acknowledged the problem and kept promising her a raise.
When the day finally came, the offer was half of what they had discussed. She was their best salesperson, the only one meeting quota, and yet they undercut a promise.
Digital Byte 78: I Am The Type Of Person Who...
For a long time, I was comfortable. The business was running. Clients were happy. Things were good.
And "good" is a dangerous place to stay.
Moving to New York a few years ago changed something in me I didn't see coming. Everyone around you is building something, chasing something, refusing to settle. You absorb it whether you mean to or not. I stopped being the person who was comfortable with good and started becoming someone else.
But the real shift happened when I flew back to see my team. I walked into a room of people who believed in what we were building, showing up every day for something we created together. I wasn't just running a business. I was the CEO of a community.
My business quickly doubled after that trip.
Digital Byte 77: Treat Your Energy With Intention
I turned 29 last week (I’m an April Fool's baby).
Birthdays have a way of making you stop and actually look at the year. Not just what you built, but how you built it. There's something about a number changing that cuts through the noise and forces a little reflection.
And when I looked back, here's what I saw: the company grew. Revenue went up. New clients, new team members, new milestones. By every external measure, it was probably my best year yet.
Digital Byte 76: Get a Little Lost Finding Your Way
In 2026, we’ve optimized the soul out of the day. We use AI to summarize the book so we don’t have to read it. We check three apps to find the perfect bagel so we don't risk a mediocre one. We’ve removed the friction, but we’ve also killed the serendipity.
When you cut the detour, you cut the happy accident. You stop being a person experiencing a city and start being a data point moving through a grid.
Digital Byte 75: The Architect vs. The Hero
I recently sat down with a founder who was visibly exhausted. When I asked him how his upcoming two-week vacation was looking, he didn't talk about the beach or the flight. He talked about his notifications.
Digital Byte 74: The Gift I’ll Never Wear
A friend of mine recently gave me one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. When I opened it, I didn’t find a generic gift card or a bottle of wine. Instead, I found a custom shirt with my dog’s face printed all over it.
Digital Byte 73: How to Find Clarity When You Feel Stuck
A few years ago, I began working one-on-one with a coach because I felt like I wasn’t getting the traction I was hoping for in my company. I wanted clearer direction and more certainty around the best next steps.
What surprised me was how rarely she actually told me what to do.
Digital Byte 72: Staying Loud for the People of Iran
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how stories travel.
What gets amplified.
What gets framed.
What quietly disappears.
As an agency owner, I live in a world shaped by narrative. I know how much power lies in visibility. I know that attention is currency. I know that what people see becomes what they believe matters.
Digital Byte 71: The Oops Tracker
On someone’s very first day at Pivota, we tell them something most companies avoid saying out loud:
You will make mistakes here.
You’ll make a few small ones and probably a few big ones too. That isn’t a failure. That’s reality.
Digital Byte 70: Have you heard of the Domino Effect?
How many dominos do you think it would take to knock over the Empire State Building?
Pause for a second and pick a number. Don’t scroll until you have a number in mind. I promise this makes the exercise so much more rewarding.
I’ve been in two situations where people have been asked this. Some said thousands, millions, others said zero as if it was not possible.
Digital Byte 69: Before You Set New Years Goals
This time of year usually comes with a familiar pressure to add more.
New goals. New routines. New commitments. New plans for how we will finally do everything better.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about a different approach. What if growth this year is not about adding anything at all?
What if it is about taking more away.
Digital Byte 68: Talent Alone is Not Enough
One of the hardest hiring lessons to learn is this: talent alone is not enough.
On paper, someone can check every box. The portfolio, the certifications, the confidence in their abilities. You look at their experience and think, “finally, someone who can take this off my plate”. But then the work begins, and you realize something much more important is missing.
Values.
Digital Byte 67: When Everything Feels Hard, Try This
As we move into Thanksgiving week, I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude. Not the kind you list off quickly, but the kind that shows up when life feels heavy.
The kind that shows up on the long days. The overwhelming days. The “nothing is working the way I planned” days.
Digital Byte 66: Progress Doesn’t Have To Be Loud To Be Powerful
Before my trip to China, I would have defined successful progress as fast, competitive, and a little chaotic.
The kind of growth that feels like a race, where speed and disruption are the benchmarks of success.
After spending two weeks there, I gained a new appreciation for what progress can look like when it’s collective.
Digital Byte 65: Your five closest friends
You are the sum of your five closest friends.
Not because you copy their choices exactly, but because proximity shapes possibility. Their habits rub off. Their ceilings become your ceilings. Their language shapes what you think is possible.
Digital Byte 64: Unfinished Lessons
The Jewish calendar marks time differently than the one hanging on most of our walls. Instead of January, the year begins in the fall with Rosh Hashanah, literally, the “head of the year.” It’s both a celebration and a spiritual reset, often marked by eating apples dipped in honey to symbolize the hope for sweetness ahead.
But unlike a typical New Year’s Eve, Rosh Hashanah isn’t just about festive beginnings.
Digital Byte 63: This Is Easy to Fix
When I was struggling to scale my company, most of my challenges came from my team. At the time, every obstacle felt heavy: a missed deadline, a lack of communication, a mistake that created ripple effects. My first thought was always, This is so hard. I’m so drained.
Then a coach gave me a simple but game-changing piece of advice: “Instead, tell yourself, ‘This is easy to fix.’”
Digital Byte 62: Could Your Business Run Without You?
If you stepped away from your business for three weeks, what would happen?
Would sales still come in? Would clients feel supported? Or would everything pause the second you stop showing up?
The truth is, most of us build businesses that depend too heavily on us being present. We hold the knowledge, we manage the decisions, and we carry the weight. Which works… until it doesn’t.
